Welcome to Goreymania!
2025-11-17 - New College Library visit, new releases and a new Headstone.
I managed to visit Oxford on the 6th of November and attended the New College Library exhibit. It is a modest exhibit and consists of four cases which display items from the library's David Mann (1935-2012) collection. Each case addresses a different subject: Gorey's Life, Primary Works, Gorey & Animals and Children's Books. The majority of the books on display are not first editions and there is nothing particularly special on display but if you are in the area, it's definitely worth a visit - if not only to reaffirm that Gorey exhibits is something the UK want more of!
It was originally planned to be up until the end of December, but they have now extended this until at least January and they told me they would extend it further if (the unexpectedly high) interest continues.
It's open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm at the New College Library, Oxford, UK. It is open to all but they suggest getting in touch with them to let them know when you're able to attend.

One book which narrowly missed my last post was a new edition of The Very Fine Clock:
The Very Fine Clock: Muriel Spark - Transit Children's Editions, November 4 2025 (9798893380262)
Also available from Transit Books is a limited hand-numbered edition of 75 broadside from The Very Fine Clock: "They talked about interesting things..." for $75: Edward Gorey Broadside

A rather delightful 6-way Flipbook has been created - it features six different Mystery! intro/outro animations which are switched between by where you place your thumb.
Gorey Flipbook - Mystery!: Edward Gorey & Derek Lamb - Flip Boku, November 7 2025.

Heretic Parfum has done a quite incredible collaboration with Gorey, transforming their whole site with moving Gorey art, character actors and story lines to promote a launch of four festive room sprays: A Very Gorey Holiday: Room Sprays.
The names of the character actors are as follows:
- Burlesque models: Dita Von Teese (The Femme Fatal) and Emma Vauxdevil (The Enthusiast).
- Artists: Bill Crisafi (The Artist), Armen Ra (The Nocturness) and Scott Campbell (The Ornamentalist).
- Singer: Romy "DeathbyRomy" Maxine Flores (The Undertaker's Mistress).
- Actors & Models: Jodi Lyn O'Keefe (The Cinephile), Steffon Palmer (The Enchanter), Julien Crane (The Devil) and Brooks Ginnan (Great Auntie Maude).
- American fashion consultant: Nick Wooster (The Dandy).
- Comedian: Brittany Broski (The Provocateur).
- Influencers: Christopher "Plant Kween" Griffin (The Botanist), Jessica Haze (The Embalmer), Joannah Castro (The Hematologist) and Rosewood (The Wolf In Lace).
- Yoga Teacher: Natasha Rusilko (The Spiritualist).
- Heretic Parfum founder and executive creative director: Douglas "DL" Little (The Perfumer).
They come boxed in black with a Gorey gift-tag, some Gorey themed paper wrapping sealed with black wax and fairly lengthy large-format pamphlet.
It is worth noting that currently the buying page on the website for these Gorey sprays seems to be blocked for all non-US/CA IPs and will show a 404 Page Not Found error for any visitor not within this region.
Even if you have no interest in the product, it is well worth looking around the website and seeing all the little Gorey Easter Eggs scattered about: A Very Gorey Holiday.

There is a KickStarter event started by Collectable Cities: KickStarter: Collectable Cities: Edward Gorey Dracula Art Toy which has now (November 3rd) reached it's stretch goal of £22,000. They will be creating two plastic figurines: Dracula and Gorey himself with Skull, Cat & Book and four metal keyrings: Amphigorey Cat, Old Possum's Cat, Fantod and Dracula.
Although they have already reached their stretch goal, you can still back them (Either without reward, for the Dracula figurine £29 or for the Dracula & Gorey Himself figurines £54) the keyrings (£11 each) are now sold out.

And lastly, a very unexpected bit of news is that Gorey now has a headstone! Located in the Woodlands Cemetery in Ironton, Ohio where his mother, Helen Gorey, and aunt, Isabel Garvey, are buried and where a portion of Edward Gorey's ashes were interred.
The grave marker was created by Rich Donohue and is carved out of white marble. It depicts Bats and a panel from The Iron Tonic: "The monuments above the dead", "Are too eroded to be read.".
More details can be found at The Ironton Tribune website.

2025-08-25 - Something Gorey & Exciting Book News
On the 22nd of August I made my way to Scotland and attended the Edinburgh International Book Festival: Something Gorey event. It was a great event considering how short it was. A Madame Groeda Weyrd impersonator (interpreter of The Fantod Pack) gave tarot readings to the queue outside. There was a live reading of The Gashlycrumb Tinies and then Hannah McGill (New Media Scotland) who seemed to be a genuine Gorey fan asked various searching and leading questions of Gregory Hischak (Director of the Edward Gorey House and author of E is for Edward) which were answered well. This was followed by a short Q&A with the audience which led to a few more insightful answers.
After the talk, I was delighted to find out they had some pre-publication copies of E is for Edward available for signing!

Then the next day, 23rd of August, The Movable Book Society (Chicago) hosted a Zoom call entitled Edward Gorey Meets Poposition Press where we got to see paper engineers Rosston Meyer, Bruce Foster and Simon Arizpe's early proof-of-concept copies of upcoming pages from a new book which will reimagine the Signals Catalogue prints as pop-up designs! (Thanks to Patrice Miller for heads up on this one!):

The full video of the call is expected to be avalible on Wednesday - when it gets uploaded I will add the link below:

2025-01-05 - Happy New Year & Welcome to Goreymania!
Greetings, a very happy New Year and welcome to Goreymania - home of indepth collectors' guides into the wonderful eclectic world of Edward Gorey.2025 is a special year for us inflicted with Gorey-mania (it being Gorey's centenary!) and as such, it seemed like the perfect time to finally launch my website.
Features are somewhat limited for now (certainly in terms of what I intend the final realisation to become), but I thought it prudent to release the first few of my Collector Guides: Graphis, Mohonk Mountain House, Playboy and The Toy Works.
My featured Guide for this release has to be The Toy Works, a culmination of many, many hours of research and diligent collecting.
Many more to come - including: Calendars & Diaries, National Lampoon, The Wrong Box and Buttons.
